The Life Cycle of a Butterfly Lesson
Introduction (Hook): Teacher will introduce students to the life cycle of a butterfly using a very interesting video. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AUeM8MbaIk)
Teacher will then present the steps of the life cycle of a butterfly by showing the students a great resource website. (http://www.kidsbutterfly.org/life-cycle) As a whole group, the students will play an interactive game where they will be required to put the stages of the life cycle of a butterfly in order using the Interwrite board in the classroom. (http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/scienceforkids/life_cycle/butterfly_lifecycle.htm)
Lesson Activity: In pairs, students will be prompted to go to www.stixy.com and create a post-it note for the class board that was created by the instructor. On the virtual post-it, students will need to list the stages of a butterfly life cycle in the correct order. This will allow the students to self-assess themselves on their new knowledge of the life cycle of a butterfly.
Assessment: Individually, students will research the life cycle of a butterfly using Google search. The students will have to determine whether the information presented matches the driving question used for the lesson. The students will use www.glogster.com to create an interactive poster of their new knowledge of the life cycle of a butterfly. Students will be required to list the stages of the life cycle of a butterfly, include two pictures, and cite two resources. The assessment will be graded using the following checklist.
